Embryo transplantation is a reproductive technique in which an embryo from a donor mare is flushed out and transferred into a carrier mare.
The embryo is flushed out of the uterus of the pregnant donor mare at 7 or 8 days after ovulation. After retrieval and washing of the embryo, it is implanted transcervically to a carrier mare within 4 hours. After birth, the foal remains with the carrier mare until weaning age.
We are a European recognized center for embryo production. This implies that every mare that comes to us for embryo production should be tested for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) and Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) every 90 days with negative results. When a mare is inseminated and/or flushed by us for embryo transfer we perform these tests. If the mare is not flushed by us, you must perform these tests yourself and submit the necessary lab results to us.
The pregnant recipient mare must be collected at 45 days gestation. If not, all costs (stabling fees, medication, ...) from this point on are the responsibility of the customer. All info on recipient mares can be found here.
Before our veterinarians perform any procedures on your horse, you must have read and signed the health declaration and framework agreement below for approval.
